What is the the unusual, weird, unique baby name you like?
I like a lot dated names (like Adelaide, Winnifred, Magdalena) that may be consider strange or unique but not wacky although they're actually are quite a few truly off the wall names I like the sound of but wouldn't actually give to a child. But would actually really consider for a middle. I like the concept of really strange middle names (like Huckleberry, Zeus or Clementine)

I am 5 months pregnant with a baby girl.. And I was wondering what your opinion On the name " London Rayne Willems " Is. I Think London is a beautiful name and I was just wondering about other peoples thoughts on taht as It's a little Odd... And also Do you Think she will be teased?

What is your Opinion On London as a baby name?
I've always loved the name London. It actually rates #284 for popular girls names, so it's not incredibly rare. I think London Rayne is very lovely. I definately don't think she'll get teased. Maybe a little "London bridges....", but that should be it. I'd say kids get teased because of the kid, not the name, unless ofcourse it's a super unique and odd name (easily laughed at), but London doesn't fit that bill in my opinion. Use it if you love it :)

I don't think it's a name for a child. It's the name of Britney Spears's dog, and that's all I can think of. I'm really not a fan of geographic places for names. I can understand, though, if you have a particular connection to the city.

I DO think, considering the rainyness of the city, that you should reconsider the middle name.
Reply:London isn't odd at all, I love it! Kids don't really tease about names these days like people think they do. I have an even more unusual name than London, and I have not once been teased for my name... ever. Most people just either say they love it or say that's different.

She is getting ready to start kindergarten and we would like for her to have a last name of someone she knows, at least.

I believe you can, just go to a family court judge and requset a change of the last name
Reply:she can but it will cost her and she'll probably have to attempt to contact the father if his name is on the birth cert. she'll proably have to do it through the courts too.

Ask, and they'll point you to the correct office). The office that gives you the forms are not allowed to answer questions; if you have questions regarding the forms, you need to speak to a lawyer. Reply:Yeah - I always thought Teegan (and Keegan) were pretty damned ugly. I also think Camden, Parker and Avery for girls are just plain hideous. For boys I think Ocean is pretty bad - I've seen some people on here recommending it. I think its dreadful.

The worst I saw on YAnswers was probably a woman who wanted to name her child either Apricot Gaia or Whisper secrets. It hurt my soul. She was so determined to name her child one of those godawful names.

I don't know why, but nobody seems to think those as bad as I think they are. I mean. HONESTLY. Whisper Secrets.

The name was not suggested on Yahoo, but I know someone that named their daughter Werdna. They were expecting a boy and wanted to name him Andrew. Werdna is Andrew backwards.

I dont want to pick a name my boy will grow up to hate or will get teased by his peers. I want one thats unique and catchy, ya dig? I want a name that will start a trend, one that others will be influenced to give their children some day when they decide to have kids. Most of all, I want my kid to grow up loving his name, where as I grew up not liking my name cuz its common. Give me some pros and cons on each name that tickles your fancy. Reply:Although different names can sound cute to babies and small children, think of what they will have to deal with when they are older and applying for a job. Do you think someone will want to hire a moon or a rock? It is a big responsibility. But if you do go it those names, make sure you give them the option of changing it when they are older if they want.

Brooklyn Isabella is very cute. Using Isabella for a first name is also very cute but I don't like Jane at all. Too plain and also very common. Isabella is such a beautiful feminine name and needs something cuter with it.
Reply:I hate the name Isabella to be truthfull. Its not that I am not good in taste with names, but ever since the Twylight books or whatever (I am thank god not one of the addicts) Isabelle and Isabella have been becoming more poplular. Lauren is pretty though.

I'm 30. I'm not in a grade. I have an almost two year old son.

There's really no way to verify this, though - and a lot of younger girls lie about their ages all the time. They have entire fantasy lives consisting of husbands, multiple children, twins, triplets, etc. You can tell who's lying though, when you look at the other questions they answer: usually it's about crushes and hair-dos.

My newborn is Vietnamese/American. My wife and I were just informed by the government that our daughter MUST HAVE a Vietnamese "given" (last) name.

Is this a new law or some lame attempt at a shakedown. If it's a shakedown, what is the appropriate amount of bribe money to be able to name my own daughter after my late mother.

BTW; our 18 month old son has an American name.

When you said "government", was it the district authority office? Ask the one who said so to prove to you. They must have a copy of notification / order and that copy must be up on the notice board for everyone to read.

Check with your embassy in Hanoi or your Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. Check with So Tu Phap, So Ngoai Vu or whatever. They should know better in my opinion.

Find the law books in bookshops. They should mention it there if there is such a law.

Have a word with an ex-pat that has been there forever he can try to make inquiries on the quiet (i always found the Aussies to be well in the know). But as you know privacy is difficult to obtain in Vietnam as everybody seems to know everything that is going on . It sound's easy to say ask the embassy but i don't think you want to look argumentative.

Have had a few shakedowns and they don't cost a lot but then you are opening a door . A funny one i had cost me a crate of "Heineken" not "Tiger" but that was only the Police . Life is always interesting there . Best of Luck

Give the babies her name. If they marry they can change the name no problem. If they don't life will be so much easier for her and the baby. The child will feel it belongs and is part of the family, not seperate with a different last name. I fshe really wants his last name at very least put both!

Reply:I don't thing that a future wedding is the reason to give the baby his father's name. The child should have a name that reflects who his family is, and if he will be raised by mom, grandma, ect... then, he should have Mom's last name. If the father's family is positive about the child and the rearing process, then perhaps the kid should have that family's name. It helps when there are "picking up from school" issues when you prove your last name is the child's last name.
Reply:I gave my daughter her fathers last name even though we weren't married because we plan to get married and we would have to pay to have her last name changed anyway. It just seemed easier to give her his last name at birth.
Reply:She can do either. My mother did not give me or my brothers our fathers last name I gave birth to our first daughter and did give her, her fathers last name. I was married with the second so she got it too.

Its really just a choice. If she plans on marrying or getting back with him I would give the baby his name, especially if they might get married. Its really expansive to change a name. But if he turns out to be a bad guy or its doubtful he'll have much intrest in the baby then I would go with her last name.

Knowing from the State I live in I had to fill out a paper to find my name on the baby's birth certificate and for him to have my last name.But in a lot of places it is up to the mother on what the babys last name will be. and if they do stick with the mothers name they have so long to change it to the fathers name at the hospital then they will have to go to court to get it done.
Reply:This could very depending on your state so you may want to double check however in most states a child may be given any last name. It does not need to be the fathers, nor the mothers for that matter.

I have not heard of any states that require the baby to have a particular last name, but again you may want to double check.

I last threw out Araminta Jane - because I couldn't stand the thought of people calling her Minty.

And Oliver Sebastian - because my husband says it sounds too effeminate and like the hero of a novel. Personally I think it's awesome.

Cool. This is like the exact opposite of the question I've asked "What are the last two names (one per gender) that you've added to your favorites list?". I've actually thought about asking this question, but never got around to it.

Anyways, the last girls name I deleted was Makenna. I don't like it anymore. And the last boys name I deleted was probably Cohen as a middle name for Bennett. Bennett is still there though.

Also funny, because Oliver is the last boy name I threw out, too. I LOVED Oliver for a while, but I just got tired of it. At first, I thought the name was cute, but I only jokingly liked it. I began to seriously like it shortly afterwards. But, I used to play jokes on my BFs and pretended I was pregnant. Twisted, I know! And Oliver was always the name of the 'baby.' I think that was another reason I got tired of it. Plus, I wasn't lovin' the nickname Ollie. I grew to like it somewhat, but still didn't want to chance Oliver being called 'Ollie.'

I sort of threw out Cordelia (nickname Cora) for a girl. I still like it, and it's on my top 5 or so, but I don't know if I could use it anymore. It sounds a bit clunky and stuffy compared to the other names on my list. Plus, I have been hearing Cora pop up more lately. And a part of me finds Cordelia to sound a bit snobby or pretentious sounding.

Reply:I'm pretty lenient on celebrity names. Many of the combos are bad: Pilot Inspektor, but really, when I think about it, Pilot itself isn't so bad. And, I think I'm the only person who thinks Apple is cute (but may not work well once she becomes an adult).

If the mom is MARRIED, then the baby gets the husband last name, unless he and the baby's mom sign a Affidavit of Non-Paternity and give up his parental rights by saying he is not the father. Then if you want to be the father you and dear girlfriend need to sign a Affidavit of Voluntary Paternity (called different on some states) that stipulates that you accept that you are in fact the biological parent of that child (no DNA needed) and that you take responsibility of providing for him. After accepting both Affidavits the court might grant you the permission to put your last name on the baby's birth certificate. *Be aware that the jugde is not obligated to accept either affidavit.

Reply:In my opinion there are no rites, if the mom has a husband the babies name should be picked by both the *mom and the husband*. It didnt take just the mom to make it nor did it take just the dad to make it. Both the mom and dad worked together to create the babie and the names should be picked together.

Now if the mother is single with a dad who is nowhere to be found than the mom should pick the name by herself on the count of that shes probably the only one who actually cares for the babie.

I don't think race should really apply here, unless you're looking for traditional or ethnic names.

If that's the case, try ending a name with a-- it's the feminine noun in Spanish, and will give almost any name a traditonally hispanic touch. Also, don't double consonants, such as in the name Gabrielle...make it Gabriela instead.

As far as african american names, I'm not sure. In all honestly, all the "black" people I've ever met have had "white" names. (I can name all of them on one hand, actually).

I'm sure than whatever name you choose will be the right one for the baby and congratulations. Also, try this site:

The Purple Martin (Progne subis) is the largest North American swallow at 20 cm length. Adults have a slightly forked tail. These "aerial acrobats" have speed and agility in flight, and when approaching their housing, will dive from the sky with their wings tucked at great speeds.

Proper identification of Purple Martins is determined by their age. It takes two years for this species to reach their full adult breeding plumage. This makes identification complicated. There are some common acronyms used in identifying the age and sex of Purple Martins. "HY" means "hatching year", "SY" means "second year" and "ASY" means "after second year".

ASY (adult birds)

Adult males are entirely black with glossy steel blue sheen, and adult females are dark on top with some steel blue sheen, and lighter underparts.

SY (subadult birds)

Females look similar to "ASY" females minus the steel blue sheen on the back. Males look very much like females at this age, but they will have solid black feathers starting to emerge on their chest in a blotchy, random pattern as they moult to their adult plumage.

West Coast Purple Martins on a nest box near Fern Ridge Reservoir, OregonThe eastern nominate subspecies P. s. subis nests exclusively in man-made bird houses, of which about a million are provided. It is the only bird totally dependent on humans for nest sites.[citation needed] It is important to note that unmonitored Purple Martin houses often become breeding colonies for House Sparrows and Common Starlings — invasive species responsible for declining Martin populations across North America. Both of these aggressive non-native species were introduced from Europe and often kill Martins for their nest cavity[citation needed]. If House Sparrows and/or Starlings are not actively controlled and removed from the housing site, the Martins will lose their eggs and young causing the martins to abandon the site. Because of the devastating effects on Purple Martins, many landlords trap the invasive species to ensure the survival of their colony of martins.

The paler subspecies P. s. hesperia of Arizona and western Mexico uses only woodpecker holes in Saguaro and other large cacti, and the large pale west coast form P. s. arboricola utilises woodpecker and other natural cavities as well as nesting boxes and gourds.

The call is described as: "Throaty and rich tchew-wew, etc., or pew pew. Song gurgling, ending in a succession of low rich gutturals".[3] Purple Martins also have a "dawnsong". Tapes of this song are sold to attract martins to newly established birdhouses.

Their breeding habitat is open areas across eastern North America, and also some locations on the west coast from British Columbia to Mexico. [4]. This species typically breeds in colonies located in close proximity to human housing.

The Purple Martin migrates to the Amazon basin in winter. Its winter range extends into Ecuador[5] but does not seem to ascend far up the Andean foothills.

The first record of this species in Europe was a single bird on Lewis, Scotland on 5-6 September 2004, and the second was on the Azores on 6 September 2004.

Purple Martins are aerial insectivores, meaning that they catch insects from the air. The birds are agile hunters and eat a variety of winged insects. Rarely, on occasion, they will come to the ground to eat insects. They usually fly relatively high, so, contrary to popular opinion, mosquitos do not form a large part of their diet.

Yes! www.behindthename.com I cannot say now how much it's helped me; it's been very helpful for me in numerous ways. I am constantly looking for names, that's why. It has pronunciation keys, the origin, it shows how popular the name is and in what year, what countries use the name and all of this other information. There are also other people's comments you can read and see what they think of the name.

Husband's say in a babies name?

My wife wants to name our child either Isabella Rowan or Jackson Avery.

I don't like Avery or Rowan. Shouldn't I be able to veto these instead of just going along with it? It's my kid too, but to be honest, she's been pretty moody lately, and don't know how to approach it. Advice?

My husband and I feel that we should both like the names chosen. We each have a list of names we like and we can cross names off of the other person's list. Only the names that we both like are options.

I think you should be honest and try to help her see your feelings. I'm sure that if she thought about it she wouldn't want to her daughter to have a name that she doesn't like 100% and that you should be afforded the same respect. Just wait until she feels more relaxed and approach it by complimenting the first name that she chose (Isabella or Jackson). Ask her what other names she likes aside from Avery and Rowan and let's pray that you like some of her other choices!
Reply:It is your kid to and yes you should have a say in it. My advice would be if you don't like the name Rowan or Avery would be to look at different baby middle names and come up with some middle names that you would be happy with. You might then be able to come up with a name that you both like and that you'll both be happy with. I wouldn't want my child to have a first or middle name that I didn't like seeing as how you're naming this child for life unless the child decides to get her name changed later in life. I hope you can come up with a middle name that you both will be happy with.
Reply:You should have a say, but find a middle name that you both agree on. Try combining those names to get a unique one. She's moody because she's pregnant, and it just happens. Try and tell her when she's happy and then tell her you would prefer a different name. Have one on hand, in case she asks you. Then, if she gets upset, tell her you're sorry, and that you didn't mean to upset her, you were just offering a suggestion. Then say that you would like to pick a name together, and that all the other names were beautiful, but you wanted to know all of your options. If she's still gets upset, then apologize again and offer another solution. Then if it still doesn't work, tell her to sleep on it and see how she likes the idea. Hope I helped!!

Reply:To be honest, the best thing to do is just to talk to her. Tell her that you respect her opinion, but would like a say in your child's name as well. When I was pregnant with my first child, I absolutely hated the names my husband came up with, while he didn't like my choice. We finally compromised and picked Katheryn Diana -- I liked the name Katherine and he thought it was too unoriginal, so we spelled it differently, and Diana's just a family name that we decided to use. Then for our second child we agreed upon Shane as a first name and I let him pick Cooper for the middle name. It all worked out pretty well. Just try and reach a compromise that you'll both be happy with. (:
Reply:Yes, you should have a say. Like you said, it's your child too. If you don't like a name then you shouldn't use it. Find something you both like and go with that. If you like Isabella and Jackson, suggest other middle names that you like. Both parents should like the name. I would just try to talk to her when she's not as moody. Just approach it carefully. Maybe if you suggest other middle names she'll like those more than Rowan and Avery.

The reason why she is moody is because of the harmones. She doesn't love you any less, it's just that way during pregnancy. I think the best way is to sit down with her, maybe when she isnt' at her moodiest, and talk to her. Tell her how you feel.

It is obviously upsetting you that you can't have a hand in namnig your child. Strike a deal with her. Have her name the baby's first name and you choose the second. That way you both have a hand in naming the child!

Reply:My daughter's name is Avery. It's become a pretty common girls name. There are two other female Avery's in my playgroup and they're all within a 5 month age span of each other.

My husband named the older two daughters, and picked the middle name for Avery. Avery Rose. As long as I liked the sound of the name, I was OK with it. I wanted to name our last daughter either Acacia or Aydan, but when she was born, she was an Avery after all.

Reply:Honestly tell her your feelings about it. You do have a say in, why doesn't she choose the first name and you choose the middle or vice versa. With my husband and myself, he named my daughter and we said when I got pregnant again, the choice would be mine.

However I would personally prefer Rainer (pron Rain-ah) over Raine and I would choose a different name to Hayley (only because it sounds fairly similar to Hannah) I love Melana for a girl and think it would go great with the other names! When babies are teething, they tend to salivate (drool) a lot. You will notice a continuous dribble leaking from the mouth. A lot of this saliva also gets swallowed by baby. The excess saliva irritates the lining of the intestine leading to diarrhoea. My doc asked us not to give any medicines unless it's really severe. If the stool is NOT mucousy and does not occur more than 3 - 4 times a day, just focus on rehydrating baby. Give him / her lots of fluids, a few sips of water or diluted juice may be fine. But, don't give too much juice as it could aggravate the diarrhoea. Prune juice is good for hardening stool.

Reply:I think that when a baby is teething it's more willing to chew on everything, exposing it to more germs. That could be a cause of the diarrhea too.

I guess the only thing you can do is watch for high fever, keep him/her from chewing on things he/she isn't supposed to and use lots of good diaper cream to prevent diaper rash.
Reply:IM NOT SURE THAT THERE IS A MEDICINE OR REMEDY. BUT I GAVE MY BABY THE CAFFEINE FREE CHAMOMILE TEA(THE DOCTOR SAID IT WAS OK) BUT IT HELPED ONLY A LITTLE. GET SOMETHING FOR UR BABY TO CHEW ON. THEY LIKE COLD THINGS, IT MAKES THEIR LITTLE GUMMIES FEEL BETTER.

I don't believe there is any medicine that will cure the diarrhea. But be sure to offer lots of liquids, and also popsicles because they feel good on the gums and provide some more fluid.

I would say, wait until you see the baby, and see if he is more a Christian or a William

I would pick Christian, I like it much better than William, but you like both so it's not that easy for you

Tell him to go to one one the many baby name websites and pick his favourites. You do the same and narrow the list down to names on both lists.

As for the baby boy's name, I'm a bit confused as to how the name would work. In general, people need to be able to identify one's name correctly in order for one to be taken seriously in life.

With a one syllable surname, you need to choose at least 2 syllables for the first name or it sounds weird. We have a one syllable last name and we all have at least 2 syllables in our first names (of course it is my married name so it is just coincidence that my name has 2 syllables).

From your list, I like Amelia, Scarlett, Harrison and Noah. Here are some others that popped into my head:

"Pate" is a great surname to work with really, it's short enough to flow well with most names. I would suggest choosing a 2 or even 3-4 syllable name to balance out the 1-syllable sound in your surname. Personally, "Scarlett Pate" sounds pretty but perhaps a little too harsh in my opinion with the many "t" sounds in there altogether. "Kaylee Pate" however is so flowing and melodic - definately a winner there!

As for your boys' list, "Harrison Pate" is just wonderful! It's a well put-together name with flow and rythm. It just looks great written down and said aloud too - I think you have your pick with that one! I would lengthen Max to Maxwell and Zac to Zacchary for formality and keep the "Max" and "Zac" as nicknames to give baby more options as to what he wants to go by [if baby is a "he" that is!].

Reply:Go with the flow. A single syllable surname should have a multisyllable first name to avoid sounding choppy and harsh. That eliminates Max and Zac. Harrison (Harry or Hank) is OK if you don't mind the constant Indiana Jones comparisons. To me, Noah is your best choice for a boy's name.

Sound-wise, all the girl's names work. I prefer Amelie; it's a gorgeous name and has multiple nns to choose from (Amy, Melly, Lee). Scarlett and Kaylee are way too trendy and fail the doctor/president test (Dr. Scarlett Pate, President Kaylee Pate). Neither name will "grow" with a child. Matilda is a pretty name making a comeback but, with your last name, rates high on the fuddy-duddy scale.

For a boy, the names Vaughn, Drake, and Rozio keep coming to mind, but I can't figure out middle names for them.

Please do not make fun of these names. My intent is to name my child a unique name because I grow weary of these common names. Oh, how many Hannahs and Sophias can I count in one preschool!

A lot of my answer would have to do with how it flows with your last name.

Belladonna is a really nice name - it would allow your daughter to go by many different variations - i.e. Bella, Bell, Donna.

The boy name that most interest me (of the ones you listed) is Rozio - it's unusual but not too extreme and freakish.

Again - a middle name - would depend on the last name.

Reply:I really like the name Nathanial, it's not overly unusual but also not really popular, well i haven't met anyone by the name. I also like the name James %26lt;Nathanial James%26gt; with that but that's quite popular.

For a girl i like Elizabeth, again it's quite a common sounding name and quite old, but i actually haven't heard that much either. I like Ava Elizabeth or Elizabeth Mae.

Reply:The problem with choosing a name that is "not so popular" may elevate you to believe you are an artist BUT as the baby grows older, he/she may find the name intolerable.

David Bowie is know to have named his first son "Zowie" (Greek for "Life"), yet, in the west, that name is more affiliated with girls... and indeed the boy changed his name as soon as he was old enough to do so.

In essence, it's alright to register the baby with a "unique" name, yet, your decision and everything related would benefit from a second of thought... or perhaps a few seconds.

Names seem to go in cycles. 20 years ago, Emma, Hannah and Ava were considered stuffy old lady names. They'd been popular when our great-grandmothers were having kids. Now they've been recycled and sound new and fresh again. But in 80 years, they'll be back in the nursing home.

So what will OUR kids by naming their sons and daughters 20-30 years from now?

Reply:Stupid, uncreative, made up names. Things like Xytosis and Turmiun. Since more and more people are getting pregnant when they don't care and don't want their babies, I'm sure we'll see a lot of Toilet Bowl's, Light Bulb's, and Banana Split's.

I like made up names if they aren't letters smashed together randomly. But still....I'm sure it will get ridiculous.

You only have to take a look at this list of Victorian names popular 130 years ago.. some of them are no longer popular and are not used anymore.. but some have stayed and if those of them on this list who were popular 130 years ago.. they who still are popular now will remain so 30 years into the future..
