me and my ex were together throughout my whole pregancny we planned on having a baby and he was with me somewhat through the delivery and he signed the birth certificate. two days after she was born he left me and he now has a new gf and the baby is only 1 weeks 2 days old. i want to change her last name to mine. can i? and where can i find out? Or do i have to go through a patternity? because if i do that then it wont help because he IS the babys father.

Reply:In most states you have to actually go to court to change the last name. When my sister had my neice and my soon to be brother in law went to sign the birth certficiate they explained that to him. If they or he wanted to change the babies last name to my sisters they would have to do it thru court. We are in Indiana btw.
Reply:Well if you want to you can tell people that thats her last name but it will always acually be your boyfriends last name.
