Why do lots of african american people name there babies oddly?
Simply, because they want to....
Reply:That is a matter of opinion. Why are those names odd to you? My name is Spanish and I am African-American. Just because the name is foreign to you does not mean that it is something strange. These are common names which became popular in the 1980s where many Blacks wanted to create separate identities. If the names bother you do not name your child by these names.

All names are created by people. These names are no different from other names. Latoya is a derivative of Victoria. Kenisha is simply a feminine variant of Ken. They do sound different but I can think of worse names...
Reply:i've seen some white people with names like shaniqua..and beside it's because it's not ur name it's odd...like my name is jumoke (all nigerians will know that name because it's VERY popular in nigeria)...it also has a meaning too so yea
Reply:It would be nice if they would pick names you could actually spell. Or spell them correctly. If you want to name your kid Asia that's fine but at least spell it right.
Reply:HAHAHA.. I am Black and always wonder myself. I think because they have a foreign sound almost French sounding most of the time.
Reply:Jason Lee is a white man and he named his child Pilot Inspektor. Weird names come from everywhere.
Reply:theyre trynna connect wit their "roots" by naming them those names...but i bet nobody in nigeria is named shakisha.
Reply:I think people need to mind their own business.
Reply:I know of this white woman who named her daughter Apple. Why aren't you questioning her?
