How did you pick your babies name? How far along were you in your pregnancy?

I choose all mine before 12 weeks (probably even 6 weeks!)

I used my favorite characters from books films etc.

Ben is after Benjamin Bunny (Beatrix Potter is a distant relative)

Ruthie is after the girl in the wonderful Housekeeping by Marilyn Robinson

Esther is the lead in Meet me in St Louis (my favorite film!)

How did you pick your babies name? How far along were you in your pregnancy?
I was thinking of names while trying to conceive I loved the name leah but wanted something different so I thought of spelling it Leigha then I wanted more different so I added an a in the beginning as in Aleigha but the spelling looked funny it sounded great but looked great I was about 5 weeks along just found out I was pregnant and saw on a baby name website Aleigha spelled Aaliyah and I fell in love with it. I am now 14 weeks along and I just know if I have a girl thats the name for me. = )

Haven't thought of any boy names yet hehe maybe Im destined to have a girl I dont know.

Good Luck and have fun with it. Make good memories! = )
Reply:With my oldest we settled on his name at the 20 week ultrasound. We were leaving the hospital and walking to the car. We had just found out we were having a boy. As we were walking hubby says, "Joseph Daniel". That was it. There was no more discussion. I liked the name and it was just as if it were meant to be.

With my second we could not agree on a name. I think hubby wanted Erik or something. I wanted Gabriel. We were talking about it one morning. My oldest was 2. I'm not sure how far along I was in pregnancy. It was after 20 weeks. Anyway, hubby was saying how he hated the name Gabriel. I looked at my son and said, "Shouldn't we name your baby brother Gabriel?" He says, "No mommy, not Gabel---Michael". Michael was a character in a book he liked. So, that was that. We named my 2nd son Michael James. We settled on James because it sounded nice with Michael.

With my third son I was 6 months. We knew it was a boy. We had already decided if it was a girl we'd name her River Katherine (River is from Firefly and Katherine is just a name we like). We knew that the second I got pregnant. But we weren't prepared for a boy. So, as soon as we found out we started brainstorming names. We tossed around the name Alexander with the idea of calling him Xander. During this time I had just started watching season 1of Supernatural. I LOVE that show. LOVE IT!! So, one night I'm watching it and it suddenly hits me--Samuel Dean! The two brothers in the show are Sam and Dean. So, we were going to go with Samuel Dean but then at the last minute decided to name him Samuel Steven (Steven is my hubby's name).
Reply:Well, I'm only 14 and have never had a baby or anything, but my cousin Jessica just had a baby. She had the middle name picked out for almost her whole pregnancy, but she didn't actually come up with the first name until she saw the baby. The baby was very fair and beautiful, so Jessica named her Fiona, since it means fair and pure. Her name is Fiona Grace.
Reply:The first time i got pregnant, we didnt have any idea what to name the baby. We decided that if it was a boy, he would be Nathanial Felix (Felix is a family name) because daddy didnt want his son to be named after him. He said he didnt like his name, but i did (Anthony). We ended up losing that baby, and 3 months later, i ended up pregnant with our daughter. We had a few names picked out by the time i was about 12weeks along. Sofia, Gabriella, Kimora....and a few others. I was insistent on SofiaLeigh Yasmin. But daddy didnt like it. We still decided if it was a boy, he would be Nathanial Felix. By the time i was about 30 weeks, SofiaLeigh just sounded funny. Kind of like the -ly ending of words: Slowly, quickly, badly etc. Couldnt see saying "My daughter, SofiaLeigh...", so we just stuck with Sofia Yasmin.

With my son, i really really wanted him to be Anthony Felix JR. All of our friends had named their babies JR's and it was a pact my fiance and his friends had made when they were younger. Sort of like Anthony, Larry, Demetrious and Avery were hanging out together, so why not Anthony JR, Larry JR, Demetrious JR and Avery JR. LOL, kind of lame, i know. But I finally convinced him to name our son Anthony JR when i was 34 weeks. Demetrious helped too because his son was born only 3 months before our son was, and he was a JR as well.

Sorry its so long!!
Reply:I think it's unfair to name a baby before you've met them. You know when you meet people and their names just totally do NOT fit their character at all, and as this childs mother you will know so much about your child the moment he/she is in your arms.

I say find some names you like, but ultimately wait until your looking the angel in the eyes before you decide anything. It's only fair.
Reply:We picked out both names when I was pregnant with my first. We had both names picked out at around 12 weeks. We had decided if we had a girl, she would have my initials (LRL). We had a hard time finding an L name we both liked. I really liked Lily, but he thought that was an "old name". I have always liked Lexi as a nickname, but wanted her to have something prettier instead of cutesy for when she was older. We agreed on Lexia. She got her middle name, Rosalyn, from the Shakespeare play "As You Like It"--my favorite! I've always thought it was a beautiful name, and it just so happened that my husband liked it, too! The first wound up being a girl. However, we already had the boys name picked out to. He was born 18 months after the first. He has his daddy's initials (SWL). The only thing we had trouble deciding on was the spelling of my sons name. His name is Skyler Wayde. We didn't really decide on the spelling until I was in recovery after my c-section. Good-luck and congrats on your pregnancy!
Reply:I always like a particular name, since I was younger. So, I had thought I always had my first born sons name picked out. To my surprise, I got pregnant w/ twin boys. I used the name I had always loved for one of them. The second name was very difficult to come about. I never realized how hard it was to name a child. But by the 7th month of my pregnancy, we had it narrowed down to a few names. We waited until the boys were born to decide what names best fit them. I wanted to see what they looked like before I made my final decision.

Good luck choosing a name. :)
Reply:First off we don't find out the sex of our children before birth so naming is a little different for us we always have to have one of each ready.

My first daughters name was picked right off after we found out we were pregnant. We had both a boy and girl name picked out. For the next two it was a little harder. The second one also a girl was named shortly after birth. Our third also a little girl wasn't name till around 12 hours after birth. And that was only the first name it took us a few more hours to decide on the middle name.

For the most part I didn't care if a name I liked was "popular"

My first daughter is Kaitlin. I have always loved the name Katie and new I would name my first daughter it. We chose Kaitlin to give her options. We call her Katie but spell it Kaitie to make it a little different since it is such a common name. My second daughter was named after a little girl in my baby sisters class at school. I thought she was so cute and sweet and I had not heard her name often ( this was about 8 years ago) She was tiny and had dark black hair. So cute. So we named my second daughter Riley, she too is tiny and has dark black hair. The name actually means Dark haired warrior. For our third I wanted something different (because Riley has become so popular and Kaitie already was.)

We picked the name Aubrie. I love that name and my little girl is everything I ever pictured an Aubrie being. Actually it worked out that way or all of them. Good Luck.
Reply:for my husband and i we just opened the Bible and started to look for unique Biblical names. We picked out 3 boy names and 3 girl names and waited for our baby to be born. (which we didn't have these names even picked out until I was 8 1/2 months along. Which is probably why we decided to do it the way we did. We had a boy and looked at him and said that he looked like Micah.
Reply:my sons name is declan i liked its kinda punkish like his dad, but its not so different that he'd get made fun of. we decided on it when i was 8 months pregnant. my husband and i were watching the jackal i believe and that was one of the characters names and when we looked it up it meant man of prayers which we really liked because i felt like nobody in my family wanted me to have a kid, my son wasn't planned, so we just prayed alot during the pregnancy.
Reply:With my oldest we had Taryn Elizabeth and Preston Duane picked out (so we thought). At 8 1/2 months when we got our final sono %26amp; finally knew that it was a girl, her dad changed his mind and decided he liked Alexandria better. So my 8 yr old is Alexandria Elizabeth (Elizabeth is after my best friend of 15 yrs), When I got pregnant with my son, we found out it was a boy about 4 months along. Their dad didn't like Preston anymore (which made me mad!) so it took a couple more months for us to decide. At about 6 months being the hormonal pregnant woman that I was I was completely irritated that our baby didn't have a name yet so we sat down one day determined to decide %26amp; we did, Clayton Daniel (Daniel is after my family) is 6 yrs old. With my 4 yr old daughter I just found her names (first %26amp; middle) in the baby name book, fell in love and was set on it at about 4 or 5 months along, she is Dannicka Cheayne (traditional spelling is Danica, I spelled it the way I did because my dads name is Dan and her dads name is Nick). My youngest daughter is Erynn Marie (Marie is after her paternal gma), I was so set on naming her Aislinn but her dad didn't like it. When he suggested Erin I just really liked it, just liked a different spelling better.
Reply:My 1st child I just opened the baby name book and picked the first name that I saw her name is Gabriella Anna and my 2nd I let my mom name her and it is Isabella Skye and my 3rd I named after my grandma that passed away 2 months before I gave birth and it is Lola Grace. My first 2 were named like 1 hour before I was supposed to leave the hospital.
Reply:Neither my husband or I had a boy's name we were passionate about. We were throwing around names when I was about 4 months pregnant (right after we found out the sex, of course). My husband's name is Brian and I love it and I love him, but nobody was calling my son BJ or junior, so namesake was out. He did get my husband's middle name which is Louis though. I kinda just said that I didnt hate the name Matthew and since we didnt have one of those in our family, it was a strong name, and it sounded good with Louis, it came to be - then.

Long story short, about 4 months.
Reply:When we found out we were pregnant, we thought of a few names for a boy or a girl that we liked. Once we found out the sex, we thought of more names we liked, but did not officially decide the name until about 2 months before we had it. We ended up keeping one of the names we thought of before we knew the sex, but it wasnt set in stone until a few months before birth.
Reply:from the time i found out i was having a boy i was set on the name Nathan and middle name Charles (thats my grandfathers middle name so that was set) at my shower everything said Nathan cause i swore by that name and said i wouldnt change it. well when my son was born i just looked at him and said how about Anthony at that moment he smiled (i have witnesses to this) so he became Anthony Charles i like to think he picked his name lol
Reply:I always wanted to name my kids after famous people. I started looking at names right away. I always wanted a boy, but had trouble picking a boy name. Right away I picked a girl name. And what do you know....I had a girl. Almost like instincts. If you have a favorite actor or actress try their name if you like it, if you don't look them up on imdb and see what some of their characters names were.
Reply:awww! i love this subject! What i did was my boyfriend and i picked out a girls name we liked the best and then we just waited to see what the sex was and we went from there, and then the middle name is his grandfather's name and the second middle name is my great-grandmothers name! YES she has two middle names! My boyfriend doesn't like it but i love two middle names, it gives your baby a wide variety of what he/she could go by when they get older, say for instance they didn't like the name you gave them, then they could choose to go by one of there middle names lol! Our little girl will be here in October and i am SOOOOOO excited and ready! Good Luck
Reply:For my first one, I stupidly agreed to let his father name him and he chose to name him after him, so I have an 18 year old named Freddy. With the second one, I refused to let him name him and I chose Dylan. With my third son (with a new husband...lol) we went through a baby book and both marked the names we liked. Only one name had 2 checks beside it...Preston. So we went with that because we both really liked it. Since it was his first (and only kid) I let him choose the middle name and he picked Tyler. We struggled with a girls name but finally decided on Regan Savannah(pronounced Ree-gan) a couple of days before my ultrasound. It was pointless....no girls for me!
Reply:We picked our son's name, James, at around two months. I suggested some names and we both agreed on James. Plus it has family significance. If our son were a girl we had agreed on Charlotte.

Our daughter, Leona, took a lot of arguing. I really liked Charlotte still but my husband didn't anymore. He wanted her to be Alexandra. I don't like the nickname "Alex" for a girl, so we had to think of a lot of names. When we found Leona we both just loved it. I think I was 7 months by that time. (Her middle name is Charlotte btw).
Reply:My dasughters name is anastasia it was a fovorite of mine since childhood, my sons name is Crew and Fox. I got Crew from hearing from my husband being a race car driver and also works as a commercial clammer so you hear crew alot on boats so it just stuck n it was different and Fox was my grandmothers middle name very unique n cool plus everyone in our family races dirtbikes so fox was a cool brand for racing. if i have another who knows i always just think about it and when something really sticks ut i go for it. i just recently was watching a army show and heard major t hought that was cool and ranger...may be alittle different for you but i like different
Reply:My fiance picked our first daughter's name and we just went through names he liked until we both agreed on one. Katryna Kae, and her nickname is Kittie. We took pretty much all 9 months to decide on one. Once we picked one out, he changed his mind a billion times.

So I picked our second daughter's name, Kristan Morsa, and we stuck with it from about 4 weeks lol

We've already decided that if we have a boy, we'll name him Dorian Karl after my uncle. Or, we'll do Dorian as the first name and James as the middle name which is my man's first name. But that'll be a while from now, if ever.
Reply:my situation is differnent. one because my daughter is adopted. two I didn't know I was adopting her until after I got attached from having custody of her her whole life. even though she's only 3. when her mom lost custody immedatly after she was born I got her so I named her kevinia a combanation of her biological mother's name and biological father's name. she was 2 day's old.
Reply:My husband and I both agreed that we wanted either family names or names that meant something meaningful to us. My son, Nicholas, is my husbands middle name. I had always liked that name and we had finally decided on it at around five months. My daughter, Sophia, was a different story. My husband wanted Angelina, meaning "little angel" but it is way too long to go with out 10-letter and 4-syllable last name! We decided on Sophia at about 7 months.
Reply:We agree on a boy names the day we knew we were pregnant

Girl, which we had, took 8 months at least

We final each made a list of ten names, that we liked and thought the other would like, one name was on each list

The middle names were easy

A boy would of been my husbands middle name, it goes back to his great grandfather

For a girl, we use my mom's middle name
Reply:We decided on our baby girl's name about a week before she was born. Its a tough decision. We went through all the books and lists and junk but we didn't want a generic baby name so we kept thinking and talking about it. Don't rush it, your baby has to live with it all it's life, so I'd take your time and make sure you're happy with the decision.
Reply:me and my fiancee aren't even pregnant yet, though just for fun we have always talked about baby names (we've been together 6years since i was 14 and he was 16 :D) and we have decided on the name Evalet for a girl. we love it, very exotic and beautiful and since she will be half Spanish i think it will suit her beautifully.
Reply:With our daughter we went back and forth over a couple of names that we liked at the time. Finally we came down to two solid names; and by the time I was 7 months pregnant we decided on Ryan Elizabeth.

Now we're TTC our second; and the names for both have already been picked out and set in stone.
Reply:For my first (Giada Rae) i picked waaaay b4 i was preg!

i luved Giada fro that chef on tv.. then took a part of my name (raven)

the for my second.... we both liked the name Bailee and i came on here to chose a middle name and got Nicole (also my middle name)

so i got Giada Rae and Bailee Nicole...next up Adrielle (dang forgot the middle name)
Reply:My daughter was a surprise i dint no wheter i was havina boy or girl so i chose a name for both and when she was born i totally changed my mind from saffron to amy dont ask me why i dont know. With my son i named him after his dad andrew and john was after a few family members but i wanted to call him ajay ... We went for andrew john n i still get my way haha AJ. The last one i called Layton becausse it was one of the names for aj but when i was 2 weeks off havin him we went to stay at our caravan n i was havin twinges n askex about the nearby hospital which happened to be Leighton!!! haha xx
Reply:ha i got very lucky... i was talking with my bf one (i was about 3/4 months) and he said if its a boy it would be named after him becuase hes a jr. so isaid fair enough.

if it was a girl i said allura and he LOVED it. it was the first name we mentioned. we didnt want it to sound white(im white) or like a black name (hes black) then both of our mothers middle names are katherine so we decided to use that as a middle name.

at around 17 weeks we found out its a girl so...allura katherine in is :)
