What have you learned from the Baby Name section of Yahoo Answers?

One thing I've learned is how boring my taste in names actually is!

Where I live, my taste in names is considered very original and a bit "fancy" or "brainy". However, that's because they haven't seen any children called Leiloriaia, Jascus or Blue.

So what important (or frivolous) things have you learned from the Baby Name section?

What have you learned from the Baby Name section of Yahoo Answers?
That people are for some inexplicable reason obsessed with high order multiples and like to pretend to be pregnant with them.

That most people on here are into the names Ava, Isabella/e, and Olivia for girls and the Aiden names, Jacob and Levi for boys. I've learned to avoid those at all costs for my own children.

I have reaffirmed my hatred of the Twilight series, and feel sorry for all the Edwards that will be running around the schools in a few years with the knowledge that their mother named them a dopey name after a sparkly vampire in a poorly written book. (I already hated Twilight before this - I'm an 8th grade LA/SS teacher and have had to endure innumerable book reports on it and am sick of hearing about it.)

That there are at least 50 different ways each that pregnant 15-year-olds try to spell 'Madison,' 'Aiden,' and 'Kaylee.'

That the unisex trend is way, way out of control, and I feel sorry for all the girls getting stuck with 'Logan,' 'Mason,' and 'Addison.' Or these days, Loganne, Maysin, and Adissynne. *rolls eyes*

And finally, I learned that my taste in names is largely unappreciated among the younger generation of (mostly) Americans... which I consider a good thing, considering their judgement of most other things (=
Reply:I've learned that people seem to care about sound much more than meaning

I've learned that many people are unaware of basic phonetic spelling rules (or they intentionally give their kids names like Logyn)

I've learned that people seek for validation in matters of taste

I've learned that people like unique (and thus counter-intuitive) spellings.

I've learned that there are a lot of strange and unappealing names out there.

I've reaffirmed my pride in my uncommon name (though it's a common Hebrew name)

I've learned that, despite my frequently low opinion of the names found, I can still waste considerable time here.
Reply:I learned that people actually think highly of others opinions on the choices of names. I always thought it was what you liked and what sounded best to your ears, but I guess not. Also I learned people watch a lot of tv shows and get the names from characters. I guess my husband and my choice is bland too, its not too made or unique/creative.
Reply:I've learned that everyone is fascinated with names, even and especially teenagers who are not pregnant. I've learned that if I never see another Aiden, Abigail, or Emma again, it will be way too soon.

And I've learned that people love to ridicule others.

It sounds bleek, but it's true!
Reply:I think I'm gonna keep the links to some of the baby name sites people post up on Y!A.

I'm only 18, but I love hearing new, original, and unique names and I think i'll start writing them down sometime soon. :)
Reply:I have learned that people like the idea of their kids getting laughed at and picked on when they go to school with dopey names like Apple and Bronx. Anybody remember Johnny Cash's song, "A Boy Named Sue"
Reply:I learned that the names Annabelle and Lillian are very popular names

right now on answers and both names are actually terrible and should never be used again!
Reply:I've learned that people can be real D**K HEADS and very rude to people who are really trying to pick out names for their children. It's really unbelievable. everything .. even criticism can be said nicely!
Reply:I'd be curious to see what your faves are.

I've learned that I'm not in the style majority. Most people don't really like the names I do.
Reply:That there are (still!) a lot of young girls out there dreaming of what they might name their baby... and now they have a new tool to use to test the names out with!
Reply:That some people have odd tastes in names, a lot of people follow trends and that boys names are being used on girls now.
