Do babies ALWAYS respond when you call their name?

My 9 month old sometimes does and sometimes doesn't and when i see questions about babies responding, it seems like parents say their babies ALWAYS respond when they call their names. So i just wanted to check if my baby is normal. Thanks!

Do babies ALWAYS respond when you call their name?
No, they don't ALWAYS respond. They may hear it, but be pre occupied with what they are doing. For the most part they usually respond or react - whether they chose to look at you, stop what they are doing for a second, turn their head..... but just like adults, they don't always respond.

:)
Reply:It really depends on the child as well as the parents. Some parents talk and read to their unborn children, others never read to their children and talk to them in jibberish ways.

Always talk to your children, even from the earliest of ages. Talk to them like you would an adult. They will learn to comprehend language faster as well as identify words, including their names.

Like I said, it really depends. I know it's cute to "baby talk" babies and use contractions in your language but you're not exactly helping their communication skills.

Instead of saying "Don't do that sweepeat" say "Do not do that, John". When you're getting ready to feed your babies, ask them "Are you ready for lunch John?" or "John, are you hungry?". Just be consistent. Consistency is the key.

So to answer your question, yes and no. :)
Reply:hmmm.... she/he may also be choosing to ignore to see your reaction..kind of like testing the water. I would see how it goes just for another month and then if the Baby does not respond to you or if you see it is happening more frequent then it would start to concern me and i would def. take the Baby to the doctor with my concern if they dont give you a form of relief or tell you that you are being silly time for another consultation and another doctor!
Reply:yes, my baby always respond to his name called not only by me but by others too.he is 8 months old. he started responding to his name when he was 5 months old.i find him alert as he even listen to what i say

from around for five days ,when i ask him to clap he claps (but this is occasionally)

every child is different and take his own time to learn it quick or make it delay, my sisters son was one year old when he got attentive and respond to his name.
Reply:My son is almost 8 months and hardly ever responds, if he is busy he pretends he doesn't hear me at all. He is crawling, standing, says mama, everything else is normal or advanced so I think it's fairly normal to not respond.
Reply:it really depends on what your baby is like. Some children will not pay attention and some won't hesitate to give you all of their attention. Theres a good chance they will respond, but with 9 months you can never be certain.

Reply:I would say that everything should be ok cause baby's sometimes can be so focused on what they are doing that they wight not hear you. But if you worried go get her hearing checked.
Reply:Same with my 10 month old - he certainly knows his name but I think he has selective hearing lol - especially when he knows he's being naughty or that it's time for a nappy change lol!
Reply:my son is 8 months old and sometimes turns his head to look but then most times he doesnt even respond. im saying that it would be normal and give it some more time
Reply:not always. if they dont feel like it or are busy thinking and looking at something they may not.
