What name must a mother put on her babies birth certificate ?

I am married and we want to put a different last name on our babies birth certificate. Can we do this ?

i heard you dont have to use your last name or the babys father last name you can name your baby what ever first middle and last name you want
Reply:yes you can put any last name on your babies birth certificate. this is especially helpful if you have a baby with someone but they choose not to be a part of the childs life you can still give the child the fathers last name if you so choose. You can make one up you can do anything you want. Cases like this happen all the time actually where mothers think one person is the father of their baby and use their last name and find out years down the road that it wasnt the father. they dont have to be there and you dont have to use your own names. If you dont believe me check with the hospitals baby registration unit. they can tell you what you need to know for fact.
Reply:i think you can either put both or ypurs or the fathers i don't think you can do it with another.but if you don't like the last names can't you try to find a nice first name that would sound right ???
Reply:No, on the baby's birth certificate you cn only put either the mother or the fathers surname. You could probably use your maiden name. But you couldnt just randomly choose a surname.
