Is it wrong for parents to use their babies social security number, and name for phone service?

Or satelite tv, because of their credit situation? Like theirs this girl, and she is using her babies social, and name for direct tv, and a phone service. Can I report that? Is she legally allowed to do that? I don't think thats fair for the baby when she grows up.

Is it wrong for parents to use their babies social security number, and name for phone service?
I say ABSOLUTELY REPORT HER. She is committing identity theft, which is a felony in the USA. She is NOT allowed to do this under the law. It also isnt fair at all to the baby. What if they dont pay the bill?? Then it goes on the babies credit record once she turns 18.

One thing that stumps me is how she got the services anyway. When you call up for phone, cable, internet, or power service, they require the name, social security number, and date of birth of the person on the account. I also know that most of the big name companies run credit checks on the person. 99% of companies only provide services to those over 18. If she is using her daughters name and social security number, then how can she use her daughters date of birth?? It shows that she isnt 18, therefore the company wouldnt start service with her. And she cant use her own date of birth as it wont match up with the babies social security number, therefore the company wont start service with her.

Something fishy is going on here. I seriously doubt that she's using her daughters info. I think that she is either lying to you and she is using her own info, or she is using someone elses info.
Reply:It's called identity theft no matter who does the stealing.
Reply:I doubt it's legal. I know it's not ethical. I believe those companies require subscribers to be 18 years or older. They should be checking on these things!
Reply:It's a clear cut case of IT (identity theft) %26amp; she needs to be reported. Will she do this all through her baby's life?
Reply:yes, i believe that it is wrong. My husband's parent used his credit when he was 16 years old, however, they kept him in good standing and built his credit, when we got married he had good enough credit to get just about anything. We found out about the credit use when we try to buy a home of our own and was told that we were not first time buyers and had to down 30 percent of the house.... this is the only downfall of his parents using his credit... other then that his score is 720. which i think that is great... BUT is still wrong....
Reply:that sounds very wrong. i would report it.
Reply:Yes, It is against the Law. check this Articlee by MSNBC

Reply:I would report it. No, she is not legally permitted to use someone else's social security information for her own personal gain, even if it is her own childs. It is called ID theft.
Reply:yes and they should be put in jail because what if they cant pay the bill than it goes on that child's credit for bad account
Reply:report her ***. what the hell !! using her babys info like that? Whats wrong wit her!
Reply:I don't know if it's illegal but it isn't right. If she screwed up her own credit that bad, she's going to screw up her baby's credit.
Reply:yea it's illegal
Reply:its illegal report it...thats what we like to call identity theft and obviously the child isnt 18 years or older....so you cant do it
Reply:I really think I'd mind my own business. I'm sure you have plenty of things in your own life to keep you occupied.
Reply:It is wrong %26amp; it shouldn't be done.
Reply:It is illegal hun.
Reply:It is not legal and it is totally disgusting. I would turn her in.
Reply:I don't know if it's legal or not, but if I were you I would find out and if it is illegal report her. If they do something to mess up the baby's credit, she is going to have a really tough time doing anything when she grows up. That's just not fair.
Reply:No matter if it's your child or not, it's still idenity theft. Yes. You can report it. And you're right...it's not fair for the baby that her parents are going to ruin her credit before she's even old enough to know what credit is.
Reply:I am not sure if it's legal or not, but my guess is that it isn't. My question would be why she has a bad credit situation though. Alot of women have those situations because of a deadbeat boyfriend or baby's father.....using their girl's good credit to rack up a bunch of debt. Women tend to be nurturer's, and want to provide what we can to those we love, and it's pretty common for a woman to go into debt with a manipulative boyfriend. I would urge you to excerise caution when deciding to report someone like this. Is this girl you know in a situation I have described?? Is she trying to get her life back on track after leaving an abusing (or at the very least controlling) relationship? Is this the only way she could think of to set up utilities?

It's not necessarily ethical, but you do need to consider someone's elses situation. Worse case scenario, she screws up under her child's name, and when the child is older, it won't be hard to prove what happened (a quick call to a credit bureau proving his/her birthdate...you can't legally be responsible for credit under age 18).

If I were you, I wouldn't report it unless I see extreme extravagence using the child's information. Otherwise, it's their business.
