Do muslims have to choose names that are islamic names lke urdu names or arab names? Or could they choose Hindi names such as Shanti, cause in my family to create peace we say Shanti?
Can Muslims Choose any name for their babies?
I don't think so.. Shanti is a Hindu name.. Muslim girl with Hindu name feels very odd..
besides Urdu and Arabic names are sooo pretty why don't you choose one.. amaan is also means peace right..
Reply:I am not a Muslim but I think you can choose Shanti as it is just a Sanskrit word but everyone will think she is Hindu. How about choose a Muslim name that means peace? Here are a few names I found:
Sakinah (means "Allah-inspired peace of mind")
Salma (means "peaceful")
Aman (means "peace")
Nevaeh (means "Heaven, peace, angels")
Raina (means "Peaceful Queen")
Sarina (means "peace")
Amna (means "peace")
Amena (means "Trustworthy, faithful, peaceful, honest.")
Taskeen (means "peace")
Leem (means "peace")
Hope I helped :)
Reply:Well, normally names are taken from Koran, but if not taken from that then also one can keep a different name, there's no harm in that people already have, apart from this the main thing is how one is from inside with the religion, the main thing is the karam which one will take with him/her, that will speak about how good muslim one is not the rest.
Reply:Well muslims choose muslim names for their children , not hindu names. Shanti is a nice name but is not Islamic.
There are a lot of beautiful muslim names for both boys and girls... why dont you choose some of those?
Are you looking for a boy or a girl? Or both? I might be able to help you.
EDIT TO ADD * When somebody converts to Islam they choose an Islamic name, usually something that's meaningful in the Islamic culture, so choosing a hindu name, is not really meaningful. Hope that answers your question.

Reply:well, you're muslim. you should know the islam law more than anyone else.
but faith and beliefs aside, must you really be bounded by that especially if it's for naming your very own child?
i mean, i'm catholic. but i never named my kids hesus or maria.
but catholics have this rule that you can name your child any name you want as long as he or she has a saint's name as the child's first name.
for example: MARIA Elena or FRANCIS Noel.
may be that can apply to your faith and baby-naming as well.
i never really followed that rule though. gave my kids japanese names, and they love them! :)
Reply:It's wrong to do so.In ur family when u say SHANTI u mean peace %26amp; its a typical hindi word %26amp; a Hindu name.So if u don't want to be called a bad Muslim, trust me %26amp; do keep a good Islamic name.....
Reply:you seriously should choose ANY name u like, your child has it for a lifetime
if your family is hindu,, use a hindu name if u like,,, but whatever your choice, do what u want,, not what boring tradition says!,, good luck xxxxxxxxx
edit,, the answer above made a point,,,, but only if your living in a muslim country,,,, if however u are living in the USA or AUSTRALIA,,, choose a name which will make them blend in and feel normal, if your living in a free country u have the right of FREE choice, if u know what i mean
like if i was living in lebanon or iraq id name my kid ahmed or something
but if i was an american citizen id go for an american name cos i was living in that country,,
Reply:you muslims!
what do you think of yourselves?
why did you do the mumbai attacks
you all should be killed for doing this
you all kill hindus becuz they are not from your religion!
Reply:I think you should choose islamic name that is how we know this is our sister or brother in islam.
